Semi Trailer Price: What a 3-Axle Flatbed Costs

In short: A 3-axle 40 ft flatbed semi trailer from our Shandong factory is currently FOB USD 9,600-11,000. Where your quote lands inside that band depends on the axles, the main beam steel, the suspension, the tyre brand, whether the trailer ships built or as CKD, the order quantity and the port of loading. Ocean freight, marine insurance and destination clearance are not in the figure.

Price is the first question in almost every enquiry we answer, and it is the one most often answered badly. A single number quoted without a specification tells you nothing, because the four parts that decide the price of a flatbed trailer are exactly the four parts that decide what the trailer can do. Here is the band we are quoting today, what it covers, and what actually moves you up or down inside it.

What the FOB figure includes

  • The trailer, built to the agreed specification. Not a stock unit – axle count, main beam, suspension and paint all follow the order.
  • Surface preparation and paint. Shot blasting before painting, one epoxy primer coat and two marine-grade top coats.
  • Delivery to the port and loading on board. We load from Qingdao, Rizhao, Lianyungang or Tianjin. Under FOB the seller carries the trailer to the named port and puts it on the vessel.
  • Export documents. Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin.
  • A one-year warranty and spare-parts support after delivery.
  • Build documentation. Drawings, photographs and video through production, with engineer guidance when your team needs it.

What moves the price inside the band

  • Axles – count and rating. Our flatbeds are built in two, three and four-axle configurations with axle sets rated 13 t, 14 t, 16 t or 20 t. Moving from a 13 t set to a 20 t set is one of the largest single jumps in the quote.
  • Axle brand. BPW and FUWA are both available, and domestic axle sets sit below both. This is also the part buyers most often need to keep honest on a like-for-like comparison.
  • Main beam steel. Q345B and T700 are both in use on this range, with a 500 mm beam height; the plate thicknesses that carry the load are set per order. Higher-grade steel costs more and carries more.
  • Suspension. Mechanical leaf spring is standard; air suspension can be specified on request.
  • Tyres and rims. Brand, size and count. A sixteen-tyre build and a twelve-tyre build are not the same trailer.
  • Brake hardware. WABCO relay valves are standard on our builds; ABS is optional.
  • Deck and body. Platform plate thickness, side wall height, whether a tarpaulin and its drive are fitted.
  • Shipping form – built or CKD. A finished trailer and a knocked-down kit use different container space and different labour. In some markets CKD gives a freight saving and an assembly step; in others it does not. Do the arithmetic on your own route before choosing.
  • Order quantity. Better pricing applies from five or ten units. A one-unit trial order is welcome and priced as one unit.
  • Port of loading. Inland haulage to the port is inside the FOB price, and the four ports above are not equally distant from the factory.

What is not included

  • Ocean freight and marine insurance. Those turn FOB into CIF. We quote all three terms, so compare them before deciding.
  • Customs clearance and duties at the destination. These are the buyer’s responsibility on our terms, so budget for your own broker and duty separately.
  • Inland transport beyond the destination port.
  • Third-party inspection fees, if you appoint SGS or BV. We accept and cooperate with both – the fee is yours.

Why two quotes for the same trailer differ

When two factories quote the same trailer type at different prices, the difference is almost never margin alone. It is usually one of four things: a different axle set or axle brand, a different main beam steel grade or plate thickness, a different tyre specification, or a different shipping form. Ask both suppliers for the same specification sheet before you compare numbers, and ask what each line item actually is. A quote you cannot break down is a quote you cannot compare.

How to get an exact number

A price stops being a range as soon as we know six things about the load, the route and your market. The list, item by item, is on what to put in a first message – copy it into your enquiry and we can quote without a second round of questions.

The rest – beam section, plate thickness, suspension and tyres – we will propose against those answers and show you where each choice sits in the price. See how the order runs from enquiry to delivery, or read the range in the flatbed and side wall trailers.

FAQ

How much does a 3-axle flatbed semi trailer cost?

From our Shandong factory the current figure is FOB USD 9,600-11,000 for a 3-axle 40 ft flatbed, depending on the specification. We quote in US dollars, and the band is reviewed as steel prices and freight move.

Is that the total price I pay to get it to my country?

No. FOB covers the trailer, export packing, delivery to the port and loading on board. Ocean freight, marine insurance, destination clearance and duties sit outside it. We can quote CIF to your port so you see one landed figure instead.

Why is there a range instead of one price?

Because the four parts that decide the price – axles, main beam steel, suspension and tyres – are also the parts you are allowed to choose. Two 3-axle 40 ft flatbeds built to different specifications are not the same trailer and should not be the same price.

What is the minimum order?

One unit. Trial orders are welcome, and better pricing applies from five or ten units.

Which steel grade should I choose?

It depends on the load and the road. A heavier duty build only pays for itself where the extra capacity is actually used; on lighter work it is tare you carry every trip. Tell us the load and we will propose, rather than quote you the most expensive option by default.
